General Counsel (In-House)

As General Counsel, you’ll play a key role in supporting daily business operations as well as shaping the company’s future from a business, legal, and financial standpoint. This position is best suited for a candidate who seeks to grow with the business and gain experience in many aspects of the legal field at once while also learning how a high-valuation company operates from the inside.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support Gold Spectrum’s political relations efforts, including interactions with local elected officials, state Senators and Representatives, federal political figures, and local and national trade and advocacy groups. This includes participating in meetings and helping to maintain relationships with these parties, in coordination with other team members.

• Work closely with other team members, including our Compliance Officer to monitor and interpret all aspects of emerging federal, state, and local regulations impacting hemp-derived products in (e.g., THC limits, labeling, licensing, marketing).

• Manage and advance intellectual property protections including trademark registration, brand protection, and IP infringement matters.

• Create and help manage new business entities, such as subsidiaries, franchises, and new ventures, as the company grows.

• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts, including vendor agreements, distribution deals, leases, and regulatory agreements.

• Manage various administrative claims and investigations, including those from federal and state regulatory agencies.

• Manage and mitigate legal risks through proactive policies, training, and internal audits, including oversight of all major company policies.

• Develop and implement internal legal processes, contract management systems, and compliance checklists.

• Review and standardize employment agreements, standard operating procedures, and other company documents.

Qualifications:

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active license to practice law.

• Any previous legal experience, ideally with exposure to regulated industries or consumer products.

• Any previous knowledge of hemp or cannabis law or regulations is a plus, but certainly not required.

• Experience advising startups, manufacturers, or direct-to-consumer brands is a plus.

• Excellent judgment, communication, and problem-solving skills is a must.

• A desire to learn and grow with the company and its staff.

• Entrepreneurial spirit and a willingness to step outside of your comfort zone and lead projects and new ventures.

Benefits/Compensation:

Salary: $60,000 - $100,000 DOE
